ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunday Morning Schedule

This Sunday, December 15, we will continue with our regular Sunday morning schedule with Kairos worship at 9:15, the education hour at 10:15, and Sanctuary worship at 11:15. It is the third Sunday in Advent, and Richard Floyd will preach “Stealing Christmas: Fearing Judgment.”

Wednesday Night at FPC

Our WNS will continue this Wednesday, December 11 followed by Christmas Caroling for all ages instead of regular programming. The menu includes chili, chicken wings, baked potato salad, and brownies. Please sign up by Tuesday at 5pm online or by calling the church office.

Reverse Advent Calendar

Click here  to see a reverse Advent calendar. Join us in looking at Advent in a different way. This calendar is a great guide for doing something for others every day rather than receiving something from others each day.

FPC Book Club Read

We are now reading The Women by Kristin Hannah. We will discuss this book this Monday, December 9 at 7pm in the parlor. Everyone is welcome!  Our club plans to meet on the second Monday of the month every other month.

Blessing Box

Thanks so much for supporting our Blessing Box! We encourage you to fill our box with individually packaged non-perishable foods, toiletries, and clothing. If you prefer, you are welcome to drop off donations at the church office.

Knitwits & Happy Hookers

This group meets on Tuesdays at 12:30pm in the parlor to knit, crochet, pray, and have fellowship. They welcome everyone, whether experienced or new at these crafts, to join them as they provide prayer shawls and other items for our congregation, friends, and community.

FPC History Booklet

FPC has a history booklet that highlights the last 50 years thanks to Amelia Stafford. You can view the booklet on our website under the About tab. If you would like to receive a digital copy, email Beth Taylor or Kim Brookman. Printed copies are available at the church office.

Communion Servers

All ordained elders, whether currently serving on the session or not, are able to serve communion. We have added a sign-up for serving communion on our website.

Online Pledging Update

If you made an online pledge prior to November 1, we ask that you confirm that we received the pledge with sue@hickoryfpc.org. We want to make sure all pledges are recorded as we introduce new technology.

Realm Update

We invite you to sign up for Realm, our new church database that will allow you to have access to our online directory. Please know Realm is still new to us, and the online directory is now live. Please contact Beth Taylor (beth@hickoryfpc.org) if you need help signing up or have questions.

Worship Art

We would love to see any artwork that our youth or children create during worship. Please send it to Beth. We may share some of these wonderful creations on our social media accounts.

Sanctuary Guild

Members of our sanctuary guild give our traditional worship space the TLC it needs to be beautiful each week. We would love to have a few more volunteers to add to our schedule. Please email Shirley Thomason at sapthomason@gmail.com if you are interested.

YMCA Yoga at FPC

The Hickory YMCA is undergoing major construction and will be holding yoga classes in our high school room beginning this week. They have graciously offered free classes to our members age 13 and above while they are using our space. Click here for more information and a schedule.

Worship Flowers

Flowers make our two worship spaces even more beautiful, and you can provide them in honor or memory of a loved one. Look at the sign up  and choose a date that is special to you.

Next Congregational Retreat

We are excited to be able to have our congregational retreat in Montreat this February 14-16. We will enjoy fellowship, worship, and some group time along with the opportunity to volunteer with the ongoing needs in western North Carolina. Our sign up is now live on the Sign-Up page! Let’s help these communities in their recovery.
