Wednesday Night at FPC

We will have a meal this Wednesday, April 16 followed by our regular programming for adults and an Easter egg hunt for all children 5th grade and under. Our Grace Notes children’s choir will have a quick year-end celebration at 6pm. This week’s menu includes glazed spiral cut ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, and apple pie. Sign up by 5pm on Tuesday night for the meal.

Hunger Relief/Lilies With a Purpose

Throughout the month of April FPC will be focusing on hunger relief programs that serve our community: the Hickory Soup Kitchen, PORCH, and the Backpack program. Our Lilies with a Purpose will honor or remember your loved ones and benefit these three programs. The deadline to order is Monday, April 14. Sign up online for your Lilies With a Purpose.

Blessing Box

Thanks so much for supporting our Blessing Box! We encourage you to fill our box with individually packaged non-perishable foods and toiletries. If you prefer, you are welcome to drop off donations at the church office.

Knitwits & Happy Hookers

This group meets on Tuesdays at 12:30pm in the parlor to knit, crochet, pray, and have fellowship. They welcome everyone, whether experienced or new at these crafts, to join them as they provide prayer shawls and other items for our congregation, friends, and community.

FPC History Booklet

FPC has a history booklet that highlights the last 50 years thanks to Amelia Stafford. You can view the booklet on our website under the About tab. If you would like to receive a digital copy, email Beth Taylor or Kim Brookman. Printed copies are available at the church office.

Communion Servers

All ordained elders, whether currently serving on the session or not, are able to serve communion. We have added a sign-up for serving communion on our website.

Parent Book Study for Lent

A parent book study on The Emotional Lives of Teenagers will be offered on Monday nights at 6pm and Thursday mornings at 9am. Please contact virginia@hickoryfpc.org with questions.

Upcoming Adult Mission Trip

FPC is partnering with other churches in our presbytery for an adult mission trip focusing on Hurricane Helene relief in western NC this May 18-23. You can serve all week, part of the week, or even one day. Work will include distribution of supplies, yard clean up, demolition, home repairs, and spreading God’s grace. Contact Bobbi Trick (bobbitrick@gmail.com) or Derwin Nelson (nelsonda@corning.com) for more details by April 21.

Realm Update

We invite you to sign up for Realm, our new church database that will allow you to have access to our online directory. Please know Realm is still new to us, and the online directory is now live. Please contact Beth Taylor (beth@hickoryfpc.org) if you need help signing up or have questions.

FPC Book Club Read

We will discuss Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger on Monday, May 12 at 7pm in the parlor. All are welcome!

Worship Art

We would love to see any artwork that our youth or children create during worship. Please send it to Beth. We may share some of these wonderful creations on our social media accounts.

Sanctuary Guild

Members of our sanctuary guild give our traditional worship space the TLC it needs to be beautiful each week. We would love to have a few more volunteers to add to our schedule. Please email Shirley Thomason at sapthomason@gmail.com if you are interested.

YMCA Yoga at FPC

The Hickory YMCA is undergoing major construction and will be holding yoga classes in our high school room beginning this week. They have graciously offered free classes to our members age 13 and above while they are using our space. Click here for more information and a schedule.

Worship Flowers

Flowers make our two worship spaces even more beautiful, and you can provide them in honor or memory of a loved one. Look at the sign up  and choose a date that is special to you.

Meditation Groups

We have two meditation groups that began on Thursday. Rob Evans will facilitate the Morning Silence group the first and third Thursdays of the month at 10am, and Katheryn Harlan and Todd Courtney will facilitate the Beyond Belief group every Thursday at 6:30pm. Both groups will meet in the Session room.

Lenten Discussion

During Lent, in place of the Pastor’s Midweek Refresh, we will discuss our theme of Everything [in] Between. Using the stories of Luke, we will find God in the midst of extremes. A Lenten devotional booklet that follows our theme is available upon request. Please contact kim@hickoryfpc.org for a copy.
