This Sunday
We will have our regular Sunday schedule this Sunday, May 12 with Kairos worship at 9:15am. the education hour at 10:15am, and traditional worship at 11:15am.
New Member Class
Our next New Member Class meets this Sunday, May 12 at 10:15 in the New Member room on the 2nd floor. Refreshments are provided! Come get to know each other better and learn more about being Presbyterian and a member of FPC. Email Richard (richard@hickoryfpc.org) with any questions.
This Wednesday at FPC
We will have our regular Wednesday night schedule this Wednesday, May 8 and continue through Wednesday, May 15. This week’s menu includes grilled pork loin with roast baby potatoes and seasonal vegetables and Caesar salad.. Please sign up by 5pm on Tuesday. We’ll have our Pastor’s Midweek Refresh and Faith, Friends, & Fellowship for our K-5th grades at 6:15pm.
Knitwits & Happy Hookers
This group meets on Tuesdays at 12:30pm in the parlor to knit, crochet, pray, and have fellowship. They welcome everyone, whether experienced or new at these crafts, to join them as they provide prayer shawls and other items for our congregation, friends, and community.
FPC Book Club Read
We are now reading Trust by Hernan Diaz. We will discuss this book on Monday, June 3 at 7pm in the parlor. Everyone is welcome!
FPC History Booklet
FPC has a history booklet that highlights the last 50 years thanks to Amelia Stafford. You can view the booklet on our website under the About tab. If you would like to receive a digital copy, email Beth Taylor or Kim Brookman. Printed copies are available at the church office.
Blessing Box
Our middle school youth have constructed a Blessing Box (with the help of Adam Oakley) beside the parking lot on 3rd Avenue. Help us keep this box filled with items to help those in need. Gently used clothing and non-perishable food items are recommended.
Worship Flowers
Flowers make our two worship spaces even more beautiful, and you can provide them in honor or memory of a loved one. Look at the sign up and choose a date that is special to you.
Adult Mission Trip Opportunity
The Presbytery is heading to Avery County May 19-24 for some mission work in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity. CLICK HERE for more information. Our own Derwin Nelson and Phil and Bobbi Trick will be participating and are happy to answer questions..
Communion Servers
All ordained elders, whether currently serving on the session or not, are able to serve communion. We have added a sign-up for serving communion on our website.
Worship Art
We would love to see any artwork that our youth or children create during worship. Please send it to Beth. We may share some of these wonderful creations on our social media accounts.
New Bus!
FPC has a new (to us) bus thanks to your generosity! With your gifts and the future sale of the old bus, we still have a gap to be filled. If you would like to donate, please specify “bus replacement” on any Venmo, online, or check donations.
Sanctuary Guild
Members of our sanctuary guild give our traditional worship space the TLC it needs to be beautiful each week. We would love to have a few more volunteers to add to our schedule. Please email Shirley Thomason at sapthomason@gmail.com if you are interested.
Vacation Bible School
Save the date! This year’s VBS, Scuba – diving into friendship with God, will be June 17-20 from 9-12. Registration and volunteer sign-ups are on our sign-ups page.

College Graduates
FPC would love to recognize our 2024 college graduates. Please EMAIL BETH TAYLOR the name of your college or grad school graduate, the name of their school, and the degree they have earned. We’d love to share this list as soon as possible.
Next Congregational Retreat
Save the date for the weekend of February 14-16, 2025 in Montreat for our next congregational retreat. All ages are encouraged to attend. More details coming soon.
